Getting Involved:
Q. How do I get my shy or resistant tween to join in the workshop with me?
A. Encourage her to get curious and discover new things – it’s fun! Also:
- Discuss other times you’ve tried something new together and it worked out great
- Emphasise there will be other middle schoolers and their parents there
- It’s about doing stuff together, not just listening to someone talk
- Discuss that ‘listening skills’ basically mean finding ways to get along with other people, so the skills that you will develop together will be useful for the rest of their lives!
If she won’t commit, come along anyway and learn things you can share together later, however it’s more fun to do together at the time!
Game Time:
Q. Hi Alexis. I need a free, fun family game for all ages for our next get together – any ideas?
Try: Finish the Lyric.
Find it on Youtube: ‘Finish the Lyric 80s, 90 and 2000s’ – pick various eras.
As people search for the next line, the music continues – warning, this starts an intergenerational singalong in many families!
